MANTACHIE - Timothy Roy Jones, 70, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, at his home. He was born May 15, 1952, in Memphis, TN, to Roy Douglas Jones and Elwanda Thompson Jones Cook. He worked in his early years for Walker's Big Star, Bob Steele's Flower Shop, Blue Bell, and for David and Nancy Mattox. He later worked as a salesman for Gury and United Sewing Machine Sales. He retired as a warehouse manager for Williams Transfer and Logistics. He was a member of Lakeland Southern Baptist Church where he served as deacon and song director. He served on the Three Rivers board of directors and as an alderman, firefighter, and first responder for the town of Mantachie. Tim was musically gifted, as he could play many instruments by ear. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as playing golf and playing softball with the Mantachie Mudslingers. He loved his family and enjoyed preparing their tax returns.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, at the Lakeland Southern Baptist Church with Bro. Cody Crum, Bro. Danny Rushing, and Bro. David Thompson officiating. Jerry Donald Thompson and Dr. David Moody will also speak. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Deborah DuLaney Jones; and his daughter, Rachelle Wilson (Chris), both of Mantachie; his son, Mark Jones (Emily) of Peaceful Valley; five grandchildren, Brooke Sheffield (Nathan), Kennedy Langley (Drew), Allana Wilson, Dugan Jones, and Clara Anne Jones; one great-grandchild, Aisley Jade Sheffield; a daughter-in-love, Kimberly Cates (Randy) of Mantachie; three sisters, Sandra Long and Tina McMurry, both of Fulton, and Lisa Tedder of Log Cabin, Texas; his father-in-law, Clifford A. DuLaney of the Tilden community; his sisters-in-law, Edna Earl Cook of Belmont, Vicki Rushing (Bro. Danny), Michelle Williams (Mike), and Marsha "YoYo" Godwin (Butch), all of Tupelo, and Debra Cammack (Kelly) of Federal Way, WA; a brother-in-law, Joseph DuLaney (Teresa) of Nashville, TN; daughters in his heart, Charlene Wilson of Olive Branch, and Gina Bolen (Randy) of Sherman; and grandchildren in his heart, Ashley Pfahler (Josh), and their children Karmen and Kaden, all of Sherman, and Christian Thomas (Hannah), and their children Raelynn, Beau, and John Ezra, all of Caledonia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Linda Leek; his step-father, Bro. Jeff Cook; his mother-in-law, Ruth A. Perry; two step-brothers, Leon Cook and Gene Cook; and a sister-in-law, Christine Cook.
Pallbearers will be John Boy McFerrin, Brad McFerrin, Rod McFerrin, Chris Wilson, Nathan Cooley, Drew Langley, Nathan Sheffield, and Rusty Loden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dare Cooley, Daniel McMurry, Mike Williams, and Butch Godwin.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, at Lakeland Southern Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Lakeland Southern Baptist Church.
