ORLANDO, FL/FULTON, MS - Sarah Jo Maxcy, 81, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Orlando, Florida. She was born January 30, 1942, in Fulton to Thomas Byron "Joe" and Sadie Ruth Chase Rushing. She was a head start and elementary school teacher for over 40 years, mostly at Vine Street Elementary School in Aberdeen. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and Community of Grace Baptist Church, both in Aberdeen. She used her talents to play piano and organ for her church for over 50 years. She enjoyed flowers, and her greatest joy was traveling, especially with her daughter in her later years.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Mark Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Sarah Camille Marcus (Mark) of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Sarah Emily Buchanan (Wil), Alan Marcus (Marissa), and Brooks Maxcy (Julie); and three great-grandchildren, Liam Buchanan, Sarah Alice Rose Buchanan, and Jack Marcus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Maxcy; her son, Jo Jo Maxcy; one sister, Laquita Pate; and her parents, Joe and Sadie Rushing.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
