Obituary

Rebecca Janiece Yerby Strickland, 85, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born February 8, 1940, in Vernon, Alabama, to Pascal Newton and Mattie Ruth Cash Yerby. She was the receptionist at the Ramada Inn in Tupelo for several years before working at North Mississippi Medical Center, where she retired from. She was a Freewill Baptist Church member. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her hummingbirds and flowers.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Gerald Gann officiating. Burial will be in the Furnace Hill Cemetery in Vernon, Alabama.

Survivors include one son, Tom Strickland (Tammy) of Jacksonville, NC; three brothers, Sidney Yerby of Steens, MS, Richard Yerby of Japan, and Joe Yerby (Mavis) of Tupelo; Seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
