Friendship
Jim Monroe Long, 84, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at his home in the Friendship Community of Itawamba County. He was born October 16, 1938, in Belmont, to Eustic and Inez Sheffield Long. He was an active member of the Friendship Methodist Church for over 70 years, where he served as chairman of the administrative board and Pastor Parish Relations Committee for several years. He was a 1957 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School and attended Itawamba Junior College. He was a member of the Mississippi National Guard for six years. He worked at Penn Tire for 20 years as Department Manager. He worked at the City of Fulton for a total of 40 years. He was a member of the Dorsey-Friendship Fire Department for 35 years and served as chief for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake and the beach, fishing with Frank and Dale on the Tombigbee River, and watching any and all sports on television, especially his Rebels.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Reverend Darrell Sanderson officiating. Jake Long will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nan Long; two daughters, Kim Long (Brian) and Amy Webb (Mike); four grandchildren, Jake Long, Erin Long, Isabella Webb, and Amelia Webb; one great grandson, Sheff Shackleford; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Long and Janet Loden; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Johnny Long; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Dale Loden and William "Pookie" Sheffield; an infant niece; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Kip Loden, Jason Loden, Bronson Loden, Derek Sheffield, and Justin Sheffield.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dorsey-Friendship Fire Department and the employees of Fulton City Hall.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
