Obituary

FULTON - Hilrey Lee Holmes, 79, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at his home in Fulton. He was born July 16, 1942, to Thomas Jefferson and Cleter Clytee Graves Holmes. He moved to Fulton 23 years ago from Fresno, California, and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. He was a blood collector for the St. Louis Serum For Cancer Research. He loved to fish and loved to run greyhounds when he was younger. He enjoyed working around the house, planting rose bushes, and feeding the birds and hummingbirds. Most of all, he loved being with his family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Keyes Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Rae Holmes; one son, Prentice Wayne Holmes, of Fulton; one daughter, Marie Ann Jenkins of Columbus; one brother, Doug Rae Holmes of Fulton; five grandchildren, Joel Farmer, Bridgitte Farmer, Tanner Jenkins, Anna Grace Jenkins, and Josh Jenkins; five great-grandchildren, Ellie Bell Jenkins, Chloe Watts, Onna Gasaway, Claylon Farmer, and Jenna Jenkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Travis Holmes, Carl Holmes, and Gaylon Holmes; and one sister, Frances Woods.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
