A World War II veteran and resident of Mantachie, Mississippi, he retired from Film Transit, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a long-time member of Getwell Church of Christ in Memphis and at Mantachie Church of Christ in Mantachie. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Ministers Kenneth Burleson and Windell Fikes officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Vernell Price Barber; his two sons, John Barber (fiancée Linda Woods) of Biloxi and Phillip Barber (wife Tina) of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Amber Igienlinski (Chris), Bo Barber (Cari), Spring Sloan, Sara Cleveland (Dave), Layna Gant, and Hayley Barber; ten great-grandchildren, Jordan, Aurelia, Lucas, Alex, Max, Lawson, Hugh, Conner, Lexi, and Hayes; and several relatives of the Barber and Price families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Barber, Sr. and Media Barber; his brothers William Roy and Rex Lee; and his sisters, Ora Gardner, Madie Sue Martin, and Uema Barber.

Pallbearers will be Chris Igienlinski, Malcom McMullen, George McMullen, Carroll Herring, David Martin, and B.J. Mills.
