MANTACHIE - David Wayne Smith, Jr., 58, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was born on October 30, 1967, to David Wayne and Phyllis Leslie Smith in Tupelo, MS.  He worked for years in the construction industry around the country and was a talented equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and playing the guitar.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Holley (Rob) and his grandchildren, Juleah and Harbor of Tupelo, his sister, Jinnie Coleman-Bland (Terry) of Mooreville, his little brother, Dale Smith (Tesla) of Oklahoma, his lifelong friend Mark Hubbard, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Delbert and Ethel Smith and Guy and Nell Leslie White, his brother-in-law, Clay Coleman, and a cousin, Jason Franks.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a. m. Saturday, January 3, at the Union Grove Cemetery near Mooreville. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie is in charge of arrangements.
