Charles M. Moore 78, passed away peacefully at Trend Health and Rehabilitation in Meridian, MS, on September 27, 2025. Charles was born September 13, 1947, in Houston, MS to the late Martin Moore and the late Juanita Hood Martin. Charles moved to Fulton in 1960 after his father passed away. While growing up in Fulton, Charles became an accomplished athlete playing football and baseball. He attended Itawamba Agricultural High School 1963 – 1966, where he was an accomplished player for the IAHS Indians. Charles set a state record for the longest field goal kick. After high school Charles attended Itawamba Community College and played football 1966-1968. Charles married Hilda Guntharp Moore, together they raised two sons, and he was the proud grandfather of 2, and great grandfather of 3. He attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Fulton and St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo. Charles had a strong conviction to his faith. Charles worked for many years for F. L. Crane & Sons, U.S. Core of Engineers, Johnson Publishing, and British Tele-o-com. He retired in 2002, after retiring, Charles focused his time on his family, friends, gardening and sports commentary.
Charles is preceded in death by his father Martin Moore, his mother Juanita Hood Martin, and his stepfather Charles Martin, a sister Anne Mackey, and a brother Larry Martin.
Charles is survived by his wife Hilda, 2 two sons, Steven Moore of Meridian, James Moore (Lorela C.) of Tupelo; grandson Peyton Moore (Mollie) of Tupelo; granddaughter Paige Moore of Auburn, AL; great grandchildren Parker, Matthew, and Palmer Moore of Tupelo; three sisters, Teresa McNeece (Jeff) of Fulton, MS., Charlotte Digby (Lloyd) of Houston, TX, and Melinda Reynolds of Iuka, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo, MS at 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2025. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
