TUCSON, ARIZONA - Charlene Gregory Cawood was born November 5, 1925 , to Allie Gregory and Nimmie Jarvis Gregory in Dorsey, Mississippi.  She died on February 13, 2021 , in Tucson, Arizona. She was a Baptist .  Charlene grew up as one of nine children in the Peppertown area of Itawamba County. She attended Ita wamba Community College .  During this time, she and her sister Mae were part of a singing quartet, the Harmonettes , that produced records . In the early 19 60's, her parents, two of her six brother s, t wo sisters, and she relocated to Arizona , where they lived and raised families . After moving to Tucson, sh e met and married Morris Cawood in 1967 and remained married to Morris until his death in 1988. Charlene retired after working for many years at GMAC and as a legal assistant for a prominent law firm in Tucson . She was very energetic and didn't believe in having idle time . She always kept several projec ts in progress at once. If someone were lucky enough to visit her, she would have that person working on proje cts with her . After her retirement, s he enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, recycling / composting ( long before it was a thing ) , yard work, reno vation projects , and her animals . She often talked about how much she enjoyed growing up in her large family and how much each member and their families meant to her . She was loved by her family and her many friends in both Arizona and Mississippi and will be missed.

Charlene i s survived by nieces Susan Gregory of Tucson , AZ ; Gail Petersen of Marstons Mills, MA; Sundra Malcolm of Eugene, OR; Laura Lee Ridgeway of Phoenix , AZ; Cheree Gregory Brown of Fulton and Amanda Shively of Peoria, AZ . Other survivors include nephews Arnold Gregory of New Smyrna Beach, FL: Dwight Gregory of Madison , MS ; Dwayne Gregory of Tucson , AZ ; Hugh Allen "Greg" Gregory, Jr. , of Germantown , TN ; Dennis Gregory of Mooreville , MS ; and Joe Duffel of Phoenix , AZ.   She is also survived by sister-in-law Nancy Gregory of Tucson, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Deutrice Gregory, Dallas Gregory, Dorris Gregory (Madelene) , Dwight Gregory, Doyle "Nudge" Gregory ( Camelle ) , and Hugh Allen Gregory, Sr. (Kaye) . She was also preceded in death by sisters Annie Laura Duffel (Vernon) and Mae Gregory Landers (Bill) and by her niece, Kathy Lynn Gregory Riddle.

The family will hold a private memorial service. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.  McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
